A collection of fabric fragments builds a base for paintings which show traces from urban space. Different techniques are used to document the traces: Beneath a self-developed sol-vent, found traces and forms are transferred by cyanotypes, drawings with soot, bleachings, and different applications of paint. After removing the traces, they are processed and sewn together. The deliberate positioning of collected ges-tures takes them from their original context and builds up a new one. By this, an interaction of intention and chance influences the development of a new work. The paintings are reminiscent of their discovery sites, such as the fence of the Academy of Fine Arts Munich or specific locations in Greece and Bulgaria. The combination of different fragments of the collection establishes a connection between public space and exhibition room. At the same time, the paintings may trans-mit an impression for the perception of individual safe spaces and exterior spaces.

GEHWEG, 2025
Sidewalk slabs, moss, concrete curbs
320 x 400 x 10 cm
The work “Gehweg” consists of collected paving slabs. Their surfaces show a lot of different marks, such as construction site markings, chewing gum stains, and discoloration. With a high-pressure cleaner, negative drawings were added who make the original texture of the paving slabs partially visi-ble. Self-cast curbstones frame the area. The combination of found material and own interventions creates a narrative of overlapping traces, similar to a palimpsest.
